Jim Carroll 8/1/1949 – 9/11/2009

I had the pleasure of playing drums with Jim Carroll. Along with Roger and Ron from The Curtain Society and Scott Ricciuti from HUCK, we spent time with Jim, learning his songs and playing with him for a handful of shows around 2005. Jim was an incredible guy to be around and the best storyteller I have ever met. It was an honor to have spent time with him and made some noise with him.

Rest in peace Jim.

Mark Burgess and The Curtain Society

July 21 The Curtain Society had the unique opportunity to back up Mark Burgess from The Chameleons in Boston MA. It was one of the most memorable shows I have ever played. Marty Willson-Piper from The Church showing up and doing a couple songs with us was the icing on the cake. The show was incredibly fun and as a result Mark has asked us to back him up again for a couple more shows. August 10th & 11th we will be playing in NYC and Philly. Music Update May 2009

It has been a while since I updated this thing. I thought I would share a few things going on right now.

May 16 we performed the 8th installement of the Green Street Music Series called “Radio Free Green Street”. This go around was a celebration of U2 and R.E.M. music. The quick version is, we put together a house band, we learn about 50 songs, we invite about 30 singers for local bands to sing some songs with us, we put on a huge show and have a great time. Right now I am in the midst of a series of shows playing drums for The Wheels and also Kelleigh Bannen who are up in Boston from Nashville. In addition to getting to play with Kelleigh, Jabe andSean, Kevin Barry played lap steel with us last night and it was a great joy to hear him play and play with him. My good friend Jeremy Curtis of The Howl and also Bow Thayer & Perfect Trainwreck is on bass. These are the kind of weeks I love, 7 nights of playing great music with great people. It has been a great time playing music with these talented folks. We have shows the rest of this week so if you are in the Boston area please come and check us out. Next week I am thrilled to be doing a few shows with Shana Morrison again. Shana is a fantastic singer who lives in San Francisco and when she comes East to play shows, The Curtain Society, along with Scott Ricciuti from HUCK back her up. We don’t get to play as often as we would like, please come out to the shows May 28-30 in Worcester MA, Providence RI and Webster MA

On June 11th I am proud to be celebrating the 100th installment of the Thursday Dive Bar Music Series. Almost 100 Thursdays ago, Alec at The Dive Bar decided it was time to bring music for the first time into his club. It has been a distinct honor to have played a part in turning The Dive Bar into a place for music. They now have music there 4 nights a week and show no signs of stopping. I have a special band planned for June 11 so please mark your calendar and come down to celebrate.

After the Wheels and Kelleigh Bannen shows and the Shana Morrison shows, The Curtain Society will be hitting the studio to begin writing and recording our new album.

The Howl – Church Session

This past weekend The Howl recorded with mighty producer Roger Lavallee in a old Church in Rochdale MA. The acoustics and the vibe of the place were outstanding. High wood ceilings, big open spaces, stained glass and the left over Christmas pageant decorations made everything sound cool. I look forward to sharing with you all the results from the session. I believe we got about 4 songs tracked and we will be mixing them over the coming weeks. Here are some pictures I took during the session.

In addition to a full summer of playing some great shows with The Curtain Society, The Howl and all of the great guests at The Dive Bar Thursday Music Series, here are some things that have been happening lately:[singlepic id=3 w=320 h=240 float=left]

www.worcesterite.com is still moving along, growing faster than it has in years. I am hoping that with this growth comes more interaction among visitors, better connections and ultimately more people taking part in the Worcester cultural community. This summer brought back the Worcesterite Networking Mixer, a monthly meetup for musicians and creative types in Worcester.
The Curtain Society has been featured on the new Bravo show ‘The Rachel Zoe Project Our Song Two Wonderful Stars is played on episodes 2 & 6. I now have an excuse as to why I am watching the show!

Pangea Media has launched our latest quiz site MyCareerQuizzes.com, featuring (as you might expect) career quizzes. I designed the format, and once again, the technology folks at Pangea made it work.

A new band that I am playing drums in called The Howl, has a new website called www.churchofthehowl.com, which I built in Wordpress. It’s lean, but slowly getting filled up with content as we grow. For now, you can go there to listen to some tunes, and to find out when and where we are playing.
